Ducal Palace of Modena

The Ducal Palace of Modena is an historic structure of great importance located in the heart of the city of Modena. Commissioned by Duke Francesco I d’Este in 1634, designed by architect Bartolomeo Avanzini, today it is among the most prestigious royal palaces in Europe. The palace was originally the seat of the Estense Court and today houses the prestigious Modena Military Academy.

The palace is a remarkable example of Renaissance and Baroque architecture, with influences from later styles as well. Its structure is imposing, with a beautifully decorated inner courtyard and a majestic facade that stands out in the cityscape.

Inside, the palace houses several halls and rooms, each with fascinating architectural details and decorations. The Courtyard of Honor, with elegant two-storey loggia, is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. From here you enter the Honor Staircase, adorned with Roman statues, which leads to the Loggia and to many rooms of the State Apartment. Among the most famous and visitable rooms are the Courtyard of Honor, the Parlatory, the Honor Staircase, the Loggia, the Military Academy Museum Room, the State Apartment, the Unified Circle Staircase, and the Turin Academy Courtyard.

Today, the Ducal Palace in Modena is an important cultural and tourist venue. It hosts exhibitions, events and cultural events, offering visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the history and art of the region.
