Carpi is the second largest city in the province in terms of population. It is also rich in history and culture. Carpi was originally a medieval village of which it still retains many vestiges such as the Piazzale Re Astolfo and La Sagra.
The Palazzo dei Pio is one of the main symbols of Carpi. Built in the 14th century, it is an imposing structure that combines elements of medieval and Renaissance architecture. Originally it was a defensive fortress, but over the centuries it was transformed into a stately residence. Its rooms offer a fascinating journey into the past, with frescoes, antique furniture, and extraordinary architecture reflecting the various historical eras the castle has passed through.
The city of Carpi is also known for its picturesque old town, with cobblestone streets, lively squares, and historic buildings. Martyrs’ Square is one of the central places, surrounded by elegant palaces and dominated by the majestic facade of the Church of Santa Maria in Castello, which is one of the most significant examples of religious architecture in the area.
Carpi is a vibrant city characterized by many industrial and craft activities, known for its textile district, trade and cultural exchanges, and numerous events dedicated to the artistic and scientific life of the local community and beyond. This atmosphere is also reflected in the culinary culture. Carpi is renowned for the production of cured meats and cheeses typical of Emilia-Romagna, offering the opportunity to enjoy local delicacies in various restaurants.
