ART EXPERIENCE

Gallery Estense

The Estense Gallery is one of the treasures kept inside the Palace of Museums of Modena. It is a rich collection of artworks ranging from the Renaissance to the Baroque, with paintings, bronzes, sculptures, manuscripts, decorative art objects and more. This extraordinary collection is a testimony to the Este family’s love of art and collecting, as it displays the collection of works of art that belonged to the Dukes of this dynasty. In fact, it offers an overview of the artistic and cultural history of the region and the dynasties that ruled the Modena territory.

The Estense Gallery consists of twenty exhibition rooms, each dedicated to a specific period or a particular aspect of local artistic history. Visitors can admire masterpieces by renowned artists, such as Bernini’s bust of Francis I, Velázquez’s portrait of the duke, El Greco’s triptych, and paintings by Correggio, Tintoretto, Veronese, Guido Reni, Guercino, and Salvator Rosa.
